2017 NSEF Road Race and Fitness Walk

May 27, 2017 All day

2017 Road Race Synopsis

The North Stonington Education Foundation held its twelfth annual “Runners and Walkers in Support of Education” 5K road race and two-mile fitness walk on Saturday, May 27, 2017. There were also children’s fun runs of varying distances based on age. Over 225 runners, walkers, and children participated in last year’s run and walk, and there were more than 400 people present at the race. The weather was sunny with temperatures in the high 60s, which was great weather for a road race. The after-race picnic, with food donated by Steak Loft and prepared by Grange volunteers, included hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, home-baked cookies, and assorted soft drinks.

Prizes were awarded to the top three overall winners (male & female) and the top three in each runner’s category. For the men’s division, the top runner was David Parkinson of Boston finishing in 18:36. In second place was Teddy Nosiku of North Stonington finishing in 19:14. In third place was Henry Smith of North Stonington finishing in 19:57.

For the women’s division, the top runner was Rebekah Kepple of Stonington finishing the race in 22:42. In second place was Sarah Parker of North Stonington with a time of 22:49. The third place was Karen Dobley of North Stonington finishing in 23:02.
