May 28, 2016 All day
2016 Road Race Synopsis
The North Stonington Education Foundation presented its eleventh annual “Runners and Walkers in Support of Education” 5K road race and two-mile fitness walk on Saturday, May 28, 2016. There were also children’s fun runs of varying distances based on age. Over 250 runners, walkers, and children participated in this year’s run and walk. This year we had over 100 from the “Girls On The Run” who ran the 5K course along with their running buddies. Also, about thirty North Stonington Elementary School “Lions Marathon Club” members ran the race.
Overall, there were over 400 people at the race. The weather was sunny with temperatures in the low 80s. The after-race picnic, with food donated by Steak Loft and prepared by Grange volunteers, included hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, home-baked cookies, and assorted soft drinks.
Prizes were awarded to the top three overall winners (male & female) and the top three in each runner’s category.
For the men’s division, the top runner was David Einsiedel of East Hampton with a 6:15 pace. In second was Al Florio of North Haven with a 6:17 pace, and coming in third was Trevor Stefanski of North Stonington with a 6:27 pace.
